CHOOSING THE BEST DAIRY PRODUCTS

Choose grass pastured, nutrient dense, properly processed dairy products for your family. Eggs, milk, butter and cheese can be medicine when grown and processed properly.

When choosing eggs, make sure they are pastured (not to be confused with pasturized) on a regenerative grazing farm. The chickens should be eating seeds, insects, and earthworms found in the field after the animals have grazed. They find and eat the insect larvae in cattle droppings and this helps to sanitize the pasture just like birds in nature that always follow herbivores as biological cleansers. These eggs are like GOLD. They are filled with fat soluble vitamins, A,D,E & K responsible for nourishing many organs and organ systems including your nervous system & brain.

When choosing milk, choose raw if you can- it contains all of the enzymes needed to make milk digestible. High heat pasteurization kills every living thing in the milk and renders it indigestible, mucous building, sledge. If you don't want to buy raw, buy from a local dairy like Straus in Marin county. Most places in the US have a great local dairy or you can find a semi-local dairy with great practices. What should you look for?

Dairies that graze their cows on pesticide free green grass that turns their milk into gold.

  1. Dairies that produce non-homogenized milk. This means the cream on top has not been “blended” so violently that your body can no longer recognize the milk- making it very hard to digest.

  2. Dairies that "lightly" pasteurize, leaving some of the enzymes intact for better digestion

When choosing cheese look for raw cheese because again the nutrients are easily absorbed by the body and it is easier to digest. If not raw, the next best is organic and grass pastured. You can find many brands of cheese nowadays that sell these types of cheese. A list of some:

  • Rumiano - Raw and pasteurized

  • Organic Valley - Raw and pasteurized

  • Raw Farm - Raw and pasteurized

  • Sierra Nevada - Raw and pasteurized

  • Kerrygold - Pasteurized

  • Truly Grass Fed - Pasteurized

  • Raw aged Parmesano Reggiano from Italy (Whole Foods)

  • Lye Cross Farm - Pasteurized

When choosing butter, look for dairies with grass fed cows. Organic helps as well. If you don't have access to a great local dairy then buy Kerrygold Butter. It is rich in color and filled with fat soluble nutrients. The butter from cows grazed on grass in the spring can be used to support fertility. See below, grass fed Kerry Gold vs Land O Lakes.
